Antony Vavia

Antony is a PhD candidate in marine biology at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT).

Antony's interests surround Pacific Islands coral reef small-scale fisheries. His current research is exploring subsistence fisheries in the Pacific by doing a case study on the island of Mitiaro, Cook Islands. This study weaves together quantitative fisheries science approaches and qualitative measures by understanding the local fisher and fishing dynamics (and traditional knowledge) through an ethnographic approach.
